The Tweener Podcast, Episode 6: Marc Stein, Maria Sharapova and Nick Kyrgios

After a two week layoff, Joey and Zach are BACK with a massive episode 6 of The Tweener Podcast. The show is headlined by a great interview with Marc Stein, an NBA Reporter and popular media personality for ESPN. Stein is a massive tennis fan who shares his perspective on the sport. We compare pro tennis and basketball players, talk Davis Cup and much much more. Later, Joey and Zach talk about Maria Sharapova testing positive for PEDs and what it means for doping in tennis as a whole. We also touch on the Nick Kyrgios drama before discussing our Indian Wells fan competition. As always we’d like to thank Stick It Wear?! for their sponsorship and hope everybody enters so they have a chance to win a free shirt!

Our US Open Experience

Leading the roars for Tim Smyczek.

What. A. Weekend.

We told you guys we had big plans, but even I didn’t think things would be as special as they were these last few days.  The US Open is a truly a magical place, and tennis is certainly the greatest sport in the world.

Let’s start with Saturday. We arrived at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center a little after 9:30, and went straight to Louis Armstrong stadium to reserve some good seats. We watched a couple women’s matches before the big men’s matches took place. Here are some pictures:

Maria Kirilenko

Simona Halep crushed Maria Kirilenko 6-0 6-1, and next on was Victoria Azarenka vs Alice Cornet. Cornet played unbelievably well during the first set, but eventually Vika’s stamina and fitness pulled her through in 3 sets.

Those were just appetizers, however, for the biggest match of the day; John Isner vs Phillip Kohlschreiber. We were in full support of Big John, wearing our I-S-N-E-R shirts and trying to get he crowd fired up. We were on TV a few times, but unfortunately John wasn’t able to push the match to a 5th set. Kohlschreiber played sick tennis, and deserved the win. isner

We caught a glimpse of Rafa Nadal on Arthur Ashe stadiem as Well.

Me and Zach on Ashe.

Saturday was an incredible day, but we knew Sunday was going to be even more fun. With some great match-ups on the schedule, we expected Sunday to be even better. It did not disappoint.

First off, even though we’re huge Federer fan’s here at The Tennis Nerds, we were still very excited to take a picture with the man who took him out at Wimbledon.

Us with Sergiy Stakhovsky.

Then I saw another big name in tennis! Murphy Jensen!

We got to watch Stan the Man Wawrinka play Marcos Baghdatis in a great 4 setter. Much of the crowd was pro-Baghdatis, but we gave Stan all of our support.

That’s it for the first part of our US Open Experience, but check back later today for (In my opinion) the best part of the weekend. Part 2 coming in a few hours!
