With my boy Joey previewing the heavyweight battle between Djokovic and Nadal tomorrow, I will keep it the other semi between Jo – Willy Tsonga and David Ferrer.
There is certainly a lot on the line in this match. The atmosphere will be electric as Tsonga attempts to achieve what no French man has done since 1988: make the French Open final. Tsonga has handeled the pressure of being the French number 1 beautifully with his impressive showing against Federer in the quarterfinals. He still has yet to drop a set in this tournament. I am interested to see how he handles the pressure of expecting to win now. He will certainly be the odds makers to win this match and advance to the finals. He was not the favorite against Roger. However, the crowd was more or less splut when he and Roger took to the court. Tomorrow will be a much different story. The French natives will be 100% behind their man and honestly could be the difference in this match. Tsonga’s powerful game is big enough to hit through Ferrer and although David is 2 – 1 against Jo – Willy, the one time they played at a slam, Tsonga won in straights.
David Ferrer on the other hand has never been to a major final and this will probably be his best shot at it. Tsonga made the final of 2008 Australian Open. This will be Ferrer’s sixth shot to make a major final and his second chance at Roland Garros. Ferrer is the biggest grinder in the game today and that will trouble Tsonga if he is not hot. Ferrer has only dropped 26 games in the whole tournament and has also not dropped a set. Tsonga will have to earn every one of his points tomorrow because Ferrer will give him NADA.
In the end, I expect a battle with both players putting everything on the line and leaving nothing on the court. The difference for me: the crowd. I think the crowd energizes Tsonga in the end and he pulls it out in 5 heart filled sets.
And a quick message for Joseph, I hope we do some videos in the future when we get back to school bro!
Let’s have some fun!!
