The French natives have been waiting for decades for a new champion to come their way. Jo – Wilifried Tsonga could be their next champion. Tsonga has a new found confidence after dropping 10 pounds during the winter session. He has become more nimble, confident, and explosive on court this year which is why I believe he has a great chance to break through here at the French. Tsonga has cruised through the first three rounds beating Bedene, Nieminen, and Chardy on route to his fourth round encounter with Viktor Troicki. If he can get through that, he could set up a quarterfinal showdown with Federer. Last year, Tsonga had match points in the quarters against Djokovic but could not convert on any of them. This year he could have a chance against Federer, who is someone he has had more success with. Tsonga has beaten Federer in a grand slam and most recently took him to 5 sets in Australia this year. The crowd would be going bananas if Tsonga could make a match of it. If Jo can upset Federer, I love his chances against the winner of the Ferrer quarter. Tsonga could be the first Frenchman since Yannick Noah to win the French. Should be an interesting second week as the final matches unfold.
