French Open Day 6 Preview

Here is a look at the featured matches for the jam packed day 6 at the French!

Roger Federer vs. Julien Benneteau: A rematch of last year’s third round at Wimbledon between Roger and Benny. Roger has looked pretty solid through the first 2 rounds even though he hasn’t faced much competition. Benneteau has given him trouble in the past. He already beat him this year in Rotterdam. But Benny struggled physically in his 4 hour grind with Kamke in the second round. Roger should be able to take advantage of that. I like Roger in straights.

Gael Monfils vs. Tommy Robredo: I did not expect Monfils to be here. He has had 2 spectacular wins over Berdych and Gulbis and I look for that to continue against journeyman Tommy Robredo. All in all, if Monfils can keep it together mentally and physically, he should win this match easily. I will take Monfils in straights. I think he is playing that well.

Feliciano Lopez vs. David Ferrer: This match is much more compelling than on paper. The series between these 2 is tied at 6 so there are no secrets between the 2. However, both have completely different game styles. Lopez is the big server while Ferrer will grind to the end. Both are very solid on clay as well. I think this will be a very close match that will come down to how well Lopez serves and returns. I think Ferrer will wear down that weak Lopez backhand in the end though. I choose Ferrer in 5.

Gilles Simon vs. Sam Querrey: Another match of contrasting styles with Simon pushing his way to the third round while Querrey cracking into the third round. While most might think that Simon will have the crowd edge in Paris, I think it will be quite the contrary. The Paris crowd has never been to fond of Simon because of his “boring” game style which differs from the normal French player. Querrey does have the shots to hit through Simon on any surface. If Simon does not bring his A game, it could be a long day. I like big Sam for the upset in 4 sets.

Enjoy the tennis!
