French Open Preview – Day 2

Here is a look at the featured matches on Day 2 of Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal vs. Daniel Brands: Not an easy first round for the king of clay against the big serving German Daniel Brands. Brands does have the type of game that could give Nadal problems. His powerful game got him to the semis of Munich and the quarters of Dubai so he does have some experience on the big stage. However, Nadal has only lost one match in his career in Paris and I do not see Daniel Brands being number 2. I like Nadal in 4 sets.

Tomas Berdych vs. Gael Monfils: This could be the most appetizing match of the day. The number 5 seed from the Czech Republic against the high flying Frenchman Monfils. Monfils has always stepped up his game in Paris and I see that happening tomorrow as well. Berdych has been playing solid ball recently, but he has never handled hostile crowds very well. Monfils gets enough balls back in play to give Berych problems. Especially on that forehand side. I like Monfils in 5 grueling sets.

Albert Ramos vs. Jerzy Janowicz: The big serving Pole is playing the tennis of his life right now and I look for that to continue on the red clay. He should not be overlooking Ramos though. Ramos is a solid clay court player and he actually beat Jerzy this year in Barcelona. Jerzy gets his revenge in 4 sets.

John Isner vs. Carlos Berlocq: This match has the possibility for an upset. Isner has had an awful year and Berlocq has played well this year including a round of 16 appearance in Indian Wells. If Isner is not on his game, the Argentinian will grind his way to the second round. I like Berlocq in 5.

Enjoy Day 2 of the French everybody!
