Here is a look at the first day of featured matches:
Roger Federer vs Pablo Carreno – Busta: Do not assume this will be a cake walk for good ole Roger. Carreno Busta started the year winning 42/43 matches on the Pro Circuit. However, this is a grand slam, not the pro circuit. Roger in straight sets.
Gilles Simon vs Lleyton Hewitt: A very intriguing first round between Simon and Hewitt. The way these guys play, it could be a long one. Simon has never been good on the clay and Hewitt has always been solid at Roland Garros. Even though Hewitt gets unlucky draws with him playing Nadal multiple times on the red clay. I like Hewitt in 4 long sets.
Marinko Matosevic vs David Ferrer: Another interesting first for Spanish grinder David Ferrer against Australian big hitter Matosevic. Hard to pick against Ferrer on clay. Matosevic will make too many errors in the end to beat the mini man from Spain. Ferrer in straights.
James Blake vs Viktor Troicki: My man James! Blake was a tough matchup with Troicki in the first round. Troicki was very close to taking out Murray a couple years ago. Blake has played better tennis this year. But he has never played well at Roland Garros. I pick Blake in the upset in 5 sets.
Enjoy the first day of the Red Dirt Slam!
